That is part of why some people are interested in it. It does not mean Jeuveau can be swapped for another product of the same type. Each of these medicines is approved for its own uses, labelled its own way, and measured in its own units. The units do not convert.

Where a needle goes, how deep it goes, how much product is placed and how the dose is balanced between the muscles on each side determine whether the result looks natural or looks treated. Those decisions are made by the same physician who assessed your face and who will see you again if anything needs adjusting.
Dr. Gallacher gives every one of these injections herself, and she runs every laser herself. She does not hand it to someone else, and it is not done by another member of staff with a doctor supervising from elsewhere in the building. There is a reason for that. Where the needle goes, how deep, how much is used and how the two sides are balanced are what decide whether the result looks natural or looks done. The person who examined your face makes those decisions, and she is the person you see again if anything needs adjusting.

We keep more than one neuromodulator available, and the product is chosen for the indication rather than for convenience. The choice takes account of the area being treated, how strong the muscle is, how you responded to previous treatment, how quickly you want the effect to appear, and whether the intended area is an approved use for that particular product. This is the same principle we apply to the lasers and energy devices in the practice: the device or the medicine is selected for the specific problem in front of us, and the manufacturer's preparation instructions are followed. Dr. Gallacher will tell you which product she is recommending for you, why she has chosen it, and whether the area being treated is an FDA-approved use or an off-label one.

What matters is the area being treated, how strong the muscle is, how you did with previous treatment, how fast you want to see a change, and whether that area is an approved use for that particular product. We do the same with the lasers: the right machine for the problem, prepared and used the way the manufacturer says. At this practice Jeuveau is used mainly for the frown lines between the eyebrows. That is the use it is approved for in adults. Doctors are allowed to use these medicines in other areas that move, such as the forehead, the corners of the eyes and some lines around the mouth, when it is medically sensible. For Jeuveau those uses are off label, and Dr. Gallacher will tell you that before she treats them. Off label does not mean wrong. It means that use has not been through the approval process for that product in that area, and nobody should describe it to you as approved. If another product suits the area better, she will suggest that one instead.

Standardised photographs are usually taken so that change can be judged properly rather than from memory. The injections themselves take a few minutes. Very fine needles are used, and most patients describe brief stinging rather than pain. You can normally return to your usual day immediately, with the aftercare below. A review appointment can be arranged if you would like the result checked once it has fully developed.
The appointment starts with an examination. Dr. Gallacher looks at the lines with your face still and with your face moving, checks how strong the muscles are and whether the two sides match, goes through your medical history and your medicines, and asks how much movement you want to keep. Who should not receive Jeuveau, or may need extra caution?

Jeuveau is contraindicated in people with known hypersensitivity to a botulinum toxin preparation or formulation component and when infection is present at the proposed injection site. Additional caution is required with neuromuscular disorders, swallowing/breathing problems, interacting medicines and other medical factors.
It must not be given to anyone who has reacted badly to a botulinum toxin product before, or to any ingredient in it, and not where there is an infection at the injection site. Extra care is needed with conditions affecting the nerves and muscles, with any trouble swallowing or breathing, with certain medicines, and with other medical factors.

A few simple measures reduce the chance of bruising. Tell us about every medicine and supplement you take, including aspirin, anticoagulants, anti-inflammatories, fish oil and vitamin E, all of which can make bruising more likely. Never stop a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it. Alcohol the night before can also increase bruising. Tell us if you have had any botulinum toxin injection recently, anywhere, including at another practice, and tell us if you have any condition affecting nerves or muscles, any difficulty swallowing or breathing, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Afterwards, the instructions we give are to stay upright for around four hours, to avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area, and to leave strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs and sunbeds until the following day. Normal activities, work and gentle facial expression are fine straight away.
A few simple things make bruising less likely. Tell us everything you take, including aspirin, blood thinners, anti inflammatory painkillers, fish oil and vitamin E. All of those make bruising more likely. Never stop a prescribed medicine without asking the doctor who prescribed it. Alcohol the night before can make bruising worse too.
