Dr. Gergana Gallacher, MD

Dr. Gallacher, the founder of the Dermatology and Laser Centre, is a renowned board certified dermatologist, uniquely qualified as one of the few true experts in the use of cosmetic lasers. Board certified since 2003, she completed a fellowship in Laser and Non-Invasive Cosmetic Dermatology and went on to serve as a Clinical Instructor at Stanford University and an Assistant Professor at UC Davis. Few board certified dermatologists in the United States combine formal laser fellowship training with faculty experience at institutions of that standing, and it is that combination, not the equipment, that Dr. Gallacher credits for the results her patients get.

Dr. Gallacher performs every laser treatment herself and does not delegate procedures. She chooses the technology to suit the indication instead of putting every patient through the same machine.

She then did a further year of specialist training, a fellowship, in lasers and non-invasive cosmetic dermatology. She went on to teach as a Clinical Instructor at Stanford University and as an Assistant Professor at UC Davis. Very few skin doctors in this country have done both. She says it is that combination, rather than the equipment, that produces the results her patients get.

Resurfacing works on the surface and on the depth of the skin at once: tone, fine lines, rough texture and sun damage. Fraxel FTX is the starting point for most patients. CO2 is used where the change needed is greater.

No single device treats everything well. The centre runs several platforms because the correct answer changes with the diagnosis, the skin type and the depth of the problem: Thermage FLX for tightening, Fraxel FTX and CO2 for resurfacing, GentleMax Pro and vascular laser for pigment and redness. Matching the device to the indication takes longer than putting every patient through one treatment, and it is where the difference in the result comes from.
In many practices you meet a doctor at the consultation and someone else carries out the treatment. Here it is the same person throughout. Dr. Gallacher examines you, makes the plan, sets the parameters and holds the handpiece herself, at every visit. Settings are adjusted during the treatment in response to what the skin is doing, which is only possible when the person treating you is the person who made the plan.
No one machine does everything well. The centre keeps several, because the right answer depends on the diagnosis, your skin type and how deep the problem sits. Thermage FLX for tightening. Fraxel FTX and CO2 for resurfacing. GentleMax Pro and the vascular laser for brown marks and redness. Matching the machine to the problem takes more time than putting everyone through the same treatment. That is where the difference in the result comes from.
In a lot of clinics you see a doctor for the consultation, then someone else does the treatment. Not here. Dr. Gallacher examines you, makes the plan, sets the machine and does the treatment herself, every time. She changes the settings as she goes, depending on how your skin reacts. That only works if the person holding the handpiece is the person who made the plan.
