Restylane® Dermal Fillers in Danville, CA
Restylane Fillers in Danville, CA
Restylane® is a family of prescription hyaluronic acid dermal fillers with different formulations for different facial concerns. Depending on the specific product, current U.S. indications include facial folds, lips and lip lines, cheeks, chin, temples, under-eye hollows and hand volume loss. The right Restylane product depends on the treatment area, tissue depth and desired degree of support or movement.
Restylane is not one product. It is a family of prescription gel fillers, made from hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already makes. Each one in the family is made slightly differently, for a different job. Between them they are approved here for folds, lips and lip lines, cheeks, chin, temples, hollows under the eyes, and the backs of the hands. Which one suits you depends on the area, how deep it goes, and how much support or movement you want.

Depending on the product: folds, lips, cheeks, chin, temples, hollows under the eyes, and the backs of the hands.
Usually limited; swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising and lumpiness are common short-term reactions.
Usually little. Swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising and small lumps are all common for a short while.
Varies by formulation and treatment area; product-specific clinical data are more useful than a single family-wide number.
It depends which product and which area. The figures for the specific product are more useful than one number for the whole family.
As with all dermal fillers, unintended intravascular injection can cause tissue necrosis, visual injury/blindness or stroke.
As with every filler, if it goes into a blood vessel by accident it can kill the tissue, damage or destroy your sight, or cause a stroke.
What is Restylane?
What is Restylane?
Restylane is a portfolio of hyaluronic acid injectable gels designed for product-specific soft-tissue augmentation and wrinkle correction.
A range of injectable gels, each designed for a particular job: filling out an area, or softening a wrinkle.
Hyaluronic acid attracts water and is also naturally present in human tissues. In fillers, HA is manufactured and crosslinked to create gels with different physical properties.
Hyaluronic acid holds on to water, and your body already contains it naturally. In a filler it is manufactured and linked together to make gels with different thicknesses and different behaviour.
Which Restylane product is used for which area?
Which one is used where?
The family is not interchangeable: each formulation has its own FDA-cleared/approved indication, tissue plane and performance profile.
They are not interchangeable. Each has its own approved uses, its own depth in the skin, and its own way of behaving.

Who may be a good candidate for Restylane?
Who is it suitable for?
Candidates are adults with a concern that matches a current Restylane indication and who do not have a product-specific contraindication.
Adults whose concern matches what one of these products is approved for, and who have no reason it would be unsafe for them.
- The treatment goal should match a specific product rather than choosing Restylane only because of the brand name.
- Tell the injector about severe allergies, reactions to lidocaine, bleeding tendency or blood-thinning medicines.
- Active inflammation or infection in the treatment area should be resolved before injection.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety has not been established.
- The product should be chosen to match what you want done, not chosen because you have heard the brand name.
- Tell whoever is injecting about severe allergies, any reaction to local anaesthetic, whether you bruise or bleed easily, and any blood thinners.
- Any inflammation or infection where the needle would go must settle first.
- Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been established.
What happens during a Restylane treatment?
What happens during treatment?
The clinician evaluates facial proportions and movement, selects a product and placement depth that match the indication, then injects small amounts with a needle or cannula as appropriate.
The clinician looks at the proportions of your face and how it moves, picks a product and a depth that match what is being treated, and injects small amounts, with a needle or a blunt tube, whichever suits.
The goal is not to use the same gel everywhere. For example, an under-eye hollow, lip border and chin need different biomechanical behavior and carry different anatomic risks.
The aim is not to use the same gel everywhere. A hollow under the eye, the border of a lip, and a chin all need the gel to behave differently, and each carries its own anatomical risks.
What results can Restylane provide?
What result will I get?
Restylane can provide immediate structural or volumizing change, with the final appearance becoming easier to judge after early swelling settles.
You can often see a change straight away, but swelling hides the real result for the first few days.
Published duration varies by formulation and area.
How long it lasts depends on which product was used and where it went.
What are the risks of Restylane?
What are the risks?
Restylane shares the general risks of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers, including common injection-site reactions and rare but serious vascular complications.
The same as any hyaluronic acid filler: common reactions where the needle went in, and the rare but serious risk of it entering a blood vessel.
- Common short-term reactions include swelling, redness, pain, bruising, tenderness, itching and lump formation.
- Delayed inflammation, infection or nodules are possible.
- Intravascular injection can cause ischemia, skin necrosis, vision impairment/blindness or stroke.
- Unusual pain, blanching, visual symptoms or stroke-like symptoms require immediate assessment.
- Common and short lived: swelling, redness, pain, bruising, tenderness, itching and small lumps.
- Inflammation, an infection, or lumps appearing later on.
- Rarely, the filler enters a blood vessel, which can kill the skin, damage your sight, or cause a stroke.
- Unusual pain, skin going white, changes in your vision, or stroke-like symptoms, need seeing immediately.

What is recovery like after Restylane?
What is the recovery like?
Most patients have little functional downtime, but social downtime depends on how much swelling or bruising develops and which area was treated.
Most people can carry on as normal. Whether you look like you have had something done depends on how much you swell or bruise, and on which area was treated.
Lips and under-eye areas can behave differently from cheeks or chin. Follow product- and area-specific aftercare rather than a universal rule.
Lips and the area under the eyes behave differently from cheeks or a chin. Follow the aftercare for that product and that area, not a general rule.
What are alternatives to Restylane?
What else could I have?
Alternatives include another FDA-approved filler family, a neurotoxin for movement-related lines, skin-tightening/resurfacing treatments for skin quality, or surgery when structural change exceeds what filler can safely accomplish.
A different family of approved fillers. A muscle relaxing injection, if the line comes from movement. A tightening or resurfacing treatment, if the issue is skin quality. Or surgery, when what you want is more than filler can safely achieve.

Questions patients ask
Is Restylane a permanent filler?
Is it permanent?
No. Restylane products are absorbable hyaluronic acid fillers. Duration varies by formulation and treatment area.
No. These are all fillers your body gradually breaks down. How long depends on the product and the area.
Which Restylane is best for lips?
Which one is best for lips?
Restylane Kysse and Restylane Silk have U.S. lip indications, and Restylane/Restylane-L also includes lip enhancement in its labeling. Product selection depends on the specific lip goal and anatomy.
Kysse and Silk are approved for lips here, and Restylane and Restylane-L include lips too. Which one suits depends on what you want your lips to look like and on your own anatomy.
Does Restylane have a filler for under-eye hollows?
Is there one for under the eyes?
Restylane Eyelight is indicated for improvement of infraorbital hollowing in patients over 21. Under-eye filler requires careful patient selection and vascular/anatomic knowledge.
Eyelight is approved for hollows under the eyes, in people over 21. Filler there needs very careful patient selection and a real knowledge of where the blood vessels run.
Can Restylane be dissolved?
Can it be dissolved?
Because Restylane is hyaluronic-acid based, hyaluronidase may be used to reduce HA filler when clinically appropriate. It is not a guarantee of perfect reversal.
Yes. Because it is hyaluronic acid, an injection of an enzyme called hyaluronidase can break it down where that is appropriate. It is not a guarantee of getting you back exactly as you were.
How long does Restylane last?
How long does it last?
There is no single duration for the entire family. Product-specific studies report different durations by formulation and treatment area, and individual results vary.
There is no single answer for the whole family. Each product has its own figures, for each area, and it varies from person to person too.
