At Dermatology and Laser Centre, we offer light, medium and deep chemical peels. This very popular procedure is non-surgical and is performed by our aesthetician to rejuvenate the skin. A chemical solution, applied by our trained specialist, will remove (“peel”) the epidermis, or the top layer of your skin. While the methods used are different, the concepts behind chemical peels and Microneedling are similar. Both treatments are intended to create a controlled trauma to the skin. The injury to the top layer of your skin during a chemical peel will exfoliate dead cells and engage your body’s healing process to stimulate collagen production. The new collagen created results in improved skin elasticity and a smoothed texture.
Chemical peel results can be dramatic, depending on your skin, your concerns and the chemical solution that is used. Chemical peels can improve a number of skin concerns, including enlarged or congested pores, age spots, sun damage, freckles, acne scars and melasma. It can improve skin texture & elasticity. Deeper peels can address fine lines and wrinkles and uneven pigment.
We offer a variety of types and strengths of peels to match your skin type and concerns. The three brands of chemical peels we administer are SkinMedica, Obagi and SkinCeuticals.
What Happens After A Chemical Peel?
After a chemical peel treatment, the area will be red and swollen. This is a normal part of the skin’s regeneration and healing process.
Some redness and peeling may continue for up to 5 days following a mild peel. This may last for about 2 weeks following a medium to strong peel. Dr. Gallacher may recommend or prescribe medication to alleviate discomfort that may be caused by our stronger chemical peels.
By removing the top layer of dead skin cells and stimulating new collagen with a chemical peel, a refreshed texture, tone and evenness can restore a youthful and radiant appearance.
