Scars and Stretchmarks
There are several solutions available for reducing the appearance of scars and stretchmarks.
The Lasers stimulates collagen remodeling and new collagen formation, thus making the scars blend in better with the surrounding healthy skin.
There are two major approaches for Laser treatment of scars and stretch marks:
- Non-ablative – associated with minimal or no down time. Results are progressive and patients require multiple treatments. Newer and shallower stretchmarks respond better than older and deeper scars and stretch marks. Studies show that the scar remodeling continues up to six months after the laser treatment has been given. Patients who notice minimal improvement during the treatment report at least 50% improvement six months later. 70% of all treated patients notice significant improvement after completion of the Laser treatments. We usually recommend topical creams to enhance the results.
- Ablative – associated with 5-7 days of down time. These treatments are recommended for deeper, more severe scarring. The Laser light smoothes the surface and sculpts the sharp edges of the scarred tissue. It is the most sophisticated and successful approach for scar treatment and results in at least 70% improvement.
Surgical revision, intralesional steroid injections, tretinoin and glycolic acid creams are also used to improve the appearance of scars and stretchmarks.
Microneedling with Rejuvapen stimulates the skin natural healing abilities and boosts collagen production. Smoother, rejuvenated skin and improved scar appearance results from this treatment. Dr. Gallacher also utilizes the microscopic ducts created during microneedling to apply medical grade topicals for increased penetration and effectiveness.
