Juvéderm Voluma® XC

As the skin ages, cheeks flatten. Skin appears thin and sunken. It droops and sags. Voluma offers a non-surgical way to recapture the fullness of youth. Dr. Gallacher may recommend Juvederm Voluma to fill in hollowed-out cheeks. Voluma is a thick hyaluronic acid gel. Dr. Gallacher injects selected areas of deep tissue along the cheeks. This adds volume to create a natural, youthful appearance.

How Long Do Voluma’s Effects Last?

Voluma is the only filler on the US market proven to last up to TWO YEARS in the cheek area. After the effects wear off, some patients return for additional treatments. Those returning often need less product to achieve their desired results.

Its Effects Are Reversible!

As with all hyaluronic acid gel fillers, the body metabolizes it with time. If a patient dislikes the results for any reason, Dr. Gallacher can reverse the effects. Voluma degrades with an injection of the enzyme hyaluronidase.

What Is Voluma®?

Voluma is an injectable hyaluronic acid gel used to restore volume to cheek areas. Within the human body, hyaluronic acid maintains the shape of eyeballs and cushions joints. Voluma uses a synthetic hyaluronic acid gel to restore the perfect amount of volume.
Voluma gel contains lidocaine which is a numbing agent. Dr. Gallacher may injects it into three areas of the cheek, the apple, the apex, and the hollow using a small needle. Patients should notice immediate results, with full effects apparent in two weeks.

A Bit About the Safety of Juvederm Voluma®:

In 2013, the FDA approved Voluma for use in the cheek area of adults 21 years old and older. Doctors in 72 other countries have used Voluma with great success.
People with severe allergies or allergies to lidocaine should not seek Voluma treatments. Voluma treatments are not for pregnant or breastfeeding clients.
Common side effects from Voluma treatments include redness, swelling, tenderness, firmness, bruising, itching, discoloration, and lumps in the injected areas. Most patients report only mild side effects that lasted 14 days or less and resolved without intervention.

The Voluma® Treatment Procedure

Dr. Gallacher always discusses desired effects and goals before treatments. She will clean and prepare the areas to be treated, sometimes applying a topical numbing agent. The injections only take a few minutes. Dr. Gallacher administers them right in the office. You may sit in a comfortable chair throughout the procedure. The doctor may massage the area after the injections to distribute the product. She may apply an ice pack to the injected area after the surgery. You can return to your regular activities within 24 hours.
During recovery, patients should avoid excessive exposure to sunlight, temperature extremes, and strenuous exercise.
